National Doctor’s Day- India

Bidhan Chandra Roy, was a renowned and well respected freedom fighter. His birthday falls on 1-July which is celebrated as Doctor’s day in India. 1-July also happens to be his death anniversary.

He held M.R.C.P., F.R.C.S. and was amongst few students who managed to simultaneously complete these. Dr. BC Roy is a Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India. He is credited to be the chief architect of West Bengal.

He is renowned to have founded five cities, Durgapur, Kalyani, Bidhannagar, Ashokenagar, Habra.

And was the second Chief Minister of West Bengal in India for a glorious 14 years as an during his tenure of 1948 to 1962; India misses people of his stature especially in the medical field.

Long gone are the days of respected and loved family physicians. DR. BC Roy had a sound upbringing. His father encouraged him to think independently and be responsible for his choices. Thus, when he got selected for both Engineering and Medical streams, he selected medicine and proved his skills in it.
